How to

Create a shift type

  1. Go to Shift and Scheduling → Shift types.
  2. Click Create new.
  3. Enter a Title and Description.
  4. Choose a Time code, if this shift type should map to a specific payroll code.
  5. Pick a Color.
  6. Save.

Edit a shift type

  1. Click a shift type in the list to open it.
  2. Make your changes, and save.

Delete a shift type

  1. Open the shift type and click Delete, or select one or more in the list and click Delete.
  2. Confirm.

Important: You can't delete a shift type that's still used on a shift or a template — remove it from those first. You also can't delete your last remaining shift type.

Find a shift type

Use the search box to search by name.

What do the fields mean?

Time code

The payroll/attendance code this shift type's hours are recorded under. Optional — leave it as None if it doesn't need one.

Color

The color shown on the shift type's chip, and on shifts that use it, so they're easy to tell apart at a glance.

Good to know

  • Shift types are always available — there's no plan restriction or module toggle for this page.
  • Shift type names must be unique — BOS will tell you if the name is already taken.
  • A shift type is picked from the same list wherever you create a shift, a recurring schedule, or a schedule template.
  • Deleting several shift types at once skips any that are still in use, and lets you know which ones couldn't be removed.
